The production of formalin and UFC at our facilities is organized as a continuous technological process. The production method is the catalytic oxidation of methanol with oxygen on an iron-molybdenum catalyst to produce formaldehyde and water, followed by absorption of formaldehyde with water in a column-type apparatus (in the production of formalin) or a urea solution (in the production of UFC).

The process for the production of formalin and UFC includes the following process stages:

  1. Methanol supply and evaporation
  2. Air supply
  3. Mixing of methanol gas, recirculation gases and fresh oxygen
  4. Heating of reaction gases
  5. Methanol oxidation process
  6. Cooling of reaction gases before submitting them to absorption
  7. Absorption of reaction gases
  8. Issuance of finished products for storage
  9. Purification of waste gases from the absorption column

Inside each reactor tube, in which the oxidation process takes place, there is a catalyst. In the intertube part there is a coolant for removing heat from the reaction zone. Demineralized water is used for heat removal, which allows obtaining steam as an additional energy resource.

The formalin absorption column can be either packed or plate, or mixed type. The number of plates or packing is selected for each individual case depending on the Customer's requirements for the quality of the finished product and capacity.

The main advantageous feature of the installations from ZAVKOM-ENGINEERING is the ability to produce both formalin and KFK-85 of various grades on one process line, while spending a minimum amount of time to switch from one aqueous solution to another.
